How’s that for a slightly pretentious headline. ‘Empire’ was actually my first preference but you’ve got to be an emperor or some sort of political animal to run one of those.
So I’ve settled for Emporium, which is just a big word for ’shop’ or ‘merchant’. That about sums up what I’m doing here – simply setting up shop on the Internet. Yes I know, me and how many million others?
Which leads to the question: at this early stage in my current online life what makes me confident of achieving success in the short term? Of being able to satisfactorily navigate my way through the Wild West that is today’s Internet Marketing environment? The answer, I think, is to link up with ethical, successful online entrepreneurs. Yes these people exist, and there are a great many of them. And yes, it’s a fact that most charge handsomely for the privilege of learning how they made it online. I’m happy to play by those rules, up to this point thanks to those pieces of plastic embossed with a few numbers on the front and a magnetic strip on the back!
“Give before you take” was a commonly mentioned route to online success about 10 years ago when I last tried to monetize my Internet efforts. Back then my cash flow dried up all too soon for unrelated reasons, but the principle still stands today I’d vouch.
So in all my future posts here, no matter what topic I’m writing about, I hope I’ll be able to enhance my reputation as a giver first. Newbies following me or others deserve nothing less. There truly are some fabulous people in this virtually connected world. I’m already grateful to them. You know who you are.
Finally, to acknowledge the enormity of the challenge ahead, I’m going to quote verbatim a well known piece of wisdom that provides a pretty good basis for succeeding in any human endeavor:
- Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.
